Craft Brew Where the Lake and River Meet

Cape Vincent Brewing Co. – Cape Vincent, NY

I don’t know about you, but there’s something about being by the water. New York State has some of the most beautiful lakes and waterways anywhere. Add in some craft brew into the mix and I’m a happy guy.

Exploring the 1000 Islands Region

Following Lake Ontario eastward and all the way around to its most northeastern point, you can happen upon the beautiful little town where the “lake and river meet”: Cape Vincent, NY. This area begins the 1000 Islands region well known for its spectacular beauty and travel and tourism opportunities. Cape Vincent is delightful and quaint located right on the mighty St. Lawrence river so while driving or walking around you get plenty of scenic views of the river, Canadian Wolfe Island, cargo ships, boating and laid-back lifestyle.

And Begin…

Right in the middle of the town on the main drag sits Cape Vincent Brewing Co., adjacent to the Cape Vincent Village Green. It’s a small charming place that just opened August 2017. Managed by Laurie Hanna-Sherman President who was there behind the bar, and Roland Sherman Master Brewer, they were featuring 13 nautical and local themed craft brews on our visit. Above the bar there were hanging mugs appearing to be regular patron mugs, and brewery shirts for sale hanging on the wall.

Sampling the Brew

I ordered a flight of Featherbed English IPA, Storm Surge Stout, Tibbetts Point Porter and Pier Pressure IPA. The FeatherBed was very smooth but lacked a bit of the floral aspect that I like in IPAs. The Storm Surge was also very smooth and hints of coffee notes that I like. The Tibbetts Point was a great color, flavor and hints or carmel. Finally the Pier Pressure had a fruity finish. All beers good quality.

Meeting New Friends

The atmosphere was inviting as while inside, we met a few very friendly people who were also enjoying the beautiful day sipping some brew. We met Tonee, Tedd and Matt who were cool, fun guys who were having a good time and were happy to talk about craft brews and what we at UBT are up to. Our new friends below:

Laurie told me that they will be expanding across the street in 2019 featuring light pub fare as well. Definitely making an effort to go again!

Explore Cape Vincent
